Exhibition Place is Canada’s largest entertainment venue, attracting over 5.3 million visitors a year. The 192-acre site is an integral component of Toronto and Ontario’s economy, particularly with respect to conventions, sport, festivals, recreation, culture and tourism. During the summer of 2015, Exhibition Place will become CIBC Pan Am Park, and will play host to up to 13 sports during the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Games.
Since 2004, Exhibition Place has undertaken an environmental stewardship initiative, entitled GREENSmart, which includes the promotion of sustainable development, environmental initiatives, and leading edge green technologies and practices across the site. For more visit explace.on.ca.
Waste Reduction Highlights
Exhibition Place is committed to reducing solid waste – both land ll waste and recyclables – by focusing on a series of core principles:
- Reducing the consumption and use of products and materials, thereby preventing waste from being generated.
- Facilitating internal and external reuse of products and materials wherever practical.
- Diverting as much waste as possible from land ll sites through effective recycling.
Exhibition Place mandates a waste reduction/diversion plan aimed at reducing the amount of waste (measured by weight) sent for disposal,and commits to a program of ongoing performance measurement and continuous improvement to attain 90 per cent diversion by 2015. This target (as well as the associated performance goals) applies to all processes and activities conducted at Exhibition Place, and to all solid waste materials generated anywhere on-site.
